Considering the importance of gender stratification when the domestic space is transnational rather than shared, we seek to understand how the construction of gender is reformulated in the family when one member of the family migrates to another country. Transnational relationships and practices, as well as routine interactions between migrants and their non-migrant partners, have repercussions on family, as an institution and on family relations.
Considering the methodological options as a strategy for the conceptual development of this evolving research area, the objective of this conference is to bring together several, empirically structured, perspectives with the contributions of researchers from different scientific areas.
Papers are welcome that seeks to present current research on frameworks related with transnational family studies. PhD students are particularly welcome.
The conference is convened by Marzia Grassi, , PI of the Project “Places and belongings” researcher at ICS-UL and is organized with the help of all the team members including: Jeanne Vivet ( University Bordeaux 3, LAM), Tatiana Ferreira (ICS-ULisboa) and Luena Marinho (ICS-ULisboa).
